Youth Makerspace

Young people aged 12-17 can visit the Youth Makerspace from 3:00-4:30pm on Mondays with an entry fee of $15. This fee includes access to the following materials and equipment:

  • Lego
  • Craft paper
  • Watercolour paints
  • Glue guns
  • Digital drawing pad and pen (byo laptop to plug in)
  • Emboss & Cut machine (for card making/scrapbooking)

Visitors are also encouraged to bring along their own craft projects and materials to work with. Projects cannot be stored at the Makerspace and visitors are responsible for remembering to take their things home.

Youth Hackerspace

Young people aged 12-17 can visit the Youth Hackerspace from 3:00-4:30pm on Tuesdays with an entry fee of $15. This fee includes access to the following materials and equipment:

  • Makey Makey (requires a laptop)
  • Microbits (requires a laptop)
  • Codeable Mini-Drones (requires an iPad/tablet)
  • Green screen & phone tripod (requires a phone)

Please note that only one iPad and laptop are available and only under direct supervision, so visitors are strongly encouraged to bring their own device in order to make full use of the freedom of the Hackerspace. Visitors are responsible for looking after their personal property and remembering to take their things home.

Homeschool Drop-in program

Homeschoolers aged 12-17 can attend the Drop-in program from 11:30-3:00pm on Fridays for a fee of $45. The program for the day generally looks like this:

  • 11:30-12:30 Elective 1, Capalaba Library
  • 12:30-1:00 Lunch at Capalaba Central foodcourt (byo lunch money or packed lunch)
  • 1:00-2:00 Elective 2, Global Business Centre
  • 2:00-3:00 Elective 3, Global Business Centre

Please note that participants are welcome to come and go as they please, however the fee will not be reduced for late arrivals or for people leaving early. Teens are welcome to stay through until 4:30pm for the Youth Hangout at no extra cost.

Youth Hangout

Young people aged 12-17 can visit the Youth Hangout from 3:00-4:30pm on Fridays free of charge. Teens are welcome to use the space and time as they wish, with respect for other people in the room. Examples of activities that teens may participate in include:

  • Playing a board game
  • Playing a multiplayer online game (byo device)
  • Chatting with friends
  • Doing art

OutSchool (online activities)
