CL Online

We recognise that many young people struggle to get out of the house and meet other youth. This might be due to anxiety, medical challenges or travel distance. Our CL Discord server is a fun and safe way for youth to make like-minded friends and, someday, eventually meet in person at our amazing property in Redland Bay.

Online membership is $100 per term; that works out to just $10 per week! This includes interest-based chat groups, weekly activities and a safe place to ask for help from our friendly staff.

About Discord

Discord is a free voice, video, and text chat app that can be used by groups to chat about different topics and interests (see screenshot below). It's like Slack but for fun instead of work! Many teens are already familiar with Discord which is why we use this platform.

We had a successful Discord channel during the 2020 pandemic lockdowns and it had the added benefit of members being able to stay connected even when they were absent. Going forward, we hope to reach more young people with online opportunities to Celebrate Learning.

Safety

Sign up requires an email address and date of birth. Parents, especially if your child is under 13, may use their own email and date of birth (or a made up DOB) to sign up.

Discord is a very large platform, so once a user has access, they can search for and join all sorts of groups, much like a Facebook user can join various Facebook groups. This is a risk, so please talk to your child about internet safety before signing up and agree on family rules around using Discord for other purposes.

Staff act as moderators on the forum and rules are be clearly explained. Membership in the server is dependent on appropriate behaviour, as per our membership terms and conditions.

I accept that staff may contact members via phone, email, Discord, Instagram and other platforms to interact as related to the program. Staff will always act according to best child safety practices in their communication and private conversations involving staff will always be made accessible to senior staff for accountability. For social use in a group setting, safe online behaviour will be addressed. Members will always be required to use technology appropriately.

School Can't

A 30 minute documentary on "School Can't" in Australia. This is the preferred term for school refusal due to anxiety. This is a growing trend and Celebrate Learning Online is our a solution.
